On 5 May 2016 His Holiness Pope Francis appointed the Most Reverend Vincent Long Van Nguyen OFMConv DD, as the fourth Bishop of the Diocese of Parramatta.
The Executive Director of Schools Greg Whitby said the long wait for our Bishop was certainly worthwhile.
‘I join with our communities in welcoming Bishop Vincent Long to the Diocese of Parramatta,’ Greg said. ‘I know our schools have been long awaiting him and we are looking forward to working with the Bishop.’
Principal of the Catholic Learning Community at Stanhope Gardens Dr Peter Webster said he felt privileged to work alongside a renowned Catholic Leader who espouses the virtues of hope, justice and mercy.
‘Our community looks forward to supporting Bishop Vincent Long Van Nguyen’s social justice agenda that facilitates our students connection with the good news of the Gospels,’ Peter said.
Coordinator of Learning at St Joseph’s Primary, Schofields, Trevor Atkins said it was an exciting day for the Diocese as we welcomed Bishop Long.
‘I actually had the pleasure of knowing Bishop Long many years ago when he was the Parish Priest of Our Lady of the Rosary, Kellyville and I know what he offered to the Parish of Kellyville and I know what he will bring to our Diocese,’ Trevor said. ‘I know we at St Joseph’s look forward to growing together with the Bishop leading the way for us.’

Congratulations to our Year 5 and Year 6 boys, who finished 3rd in their pools, and to our year 6 girls who also finished 3rd and our year 5 girls finishing 4th overall. Our Year 6 Faith in Action Team had a wonderful time with the residents of Buckland Nursing Home. 🌸🎨 Together, they pressed flowers and created beautiful artworks while sharing smiles, stories, and friendship. What a wonderful day we have had at STA’s Commonwealth Games today! It was a huge day of fun celebrating the Commonwealth Games and the STA community. A huge thank you to all the staff who prepared for the day, to our volunteers who joined in with the activities and cooked the bbq and to our family and friends for their very generous donations. From the Opening Ceremony to our final activity, fun was had by all.

The sun shone down on a fantastic day of competition and each competitor beamed with enthusiasm and showed great skill as the games continued. It was wonderful to see our players encouraging and supporting one another throughout each game, and there were some outstanding plays and impressive results to celebrate. Congratulations to our Year 5 and Year 6 boys’ teams, who both finished as winners of their respective pools! Our Year 5 and Year 6 girls also played exceptionally well, narrowly finishing in third place overall. 👏 A big thank you to our parents for their support and cheering from the sideline, it certainly helped make the day such a success! This term Year 1 have been learning about Ancient Rome. Today we celebrated our learning journey by dressing up as either a Gladiator, God/Goddess or Ancient Roman citizen and we participated in a variety of fun activities. Our day began with creating our very own amphorae out of air dried clay. We played a number of board games such as Rota, Tali and Tessere and Ludus Calculorum. We also worked hard at preparing to be a Gladiator through a fun but challenging obstacle course! Lucky we had a Pizza Break mid session!! Our final activity was learning the ancient art style of Mosaics. Thank you to all our staff (teachers and Office) who helped us have such a great day of learning in a different way.

Our Year 1 students had a fantastic opportunity to visit our Year 5 and Year 6 classes this week! 🤩 First, they admired the amazing beach artworks created by our Year 6 students. 🎨🏖️ These beautiful pieces inspired our Year 1 students to write their own imaginative stories and descriptions about the beach. They were so excited to see the artworks and used them to spark their own creative ideas! ✨ They also enjoyed watching Year 5's performances of The Conversion of Saul to Paul. The performances helped our Year 1 students develop a deeper understanding of the story and its important message. A huge congratulations to our Year 5 students for all the hard work, practice, and confidence they showed in bringing this story to life! 👏🌟 It was wonderful to see our students learning from one another and celebrating creativity, faith, and collaboration. 💙
