On 5 May 2016 His Holiness Pope Francis appointed the Most Reverend Vincent Long Van Nguyen OFMConv DD, as the fourth Bishop of the Diocese of Parramatta.
The Executive Director of Schools Greg Whitby said the long wait for our Bishop was certainly worthwhile.
‘I join with our communities in welcoming Bishop Vincent Long to the Diocese of Parramatta,’ Greg said. ‘I know our schools have been long awaiting him and we are looking forward to working with the Bishop.’
Principal of the Catholic Learning Community at Stanhope Gardens Dr Peter Webster said he felt privileged to work alongside a renowned Catholic Leader who espouses the virtues of hope, justice and mercy.
‘Our community looks forward to supporting Bishop Vincent Long Van Nguyen’s social justice agenda that facilitates our students connection with the good news of the Gospels,’ Peter said.
Coordinator of Learning at St Joseph’s Primary, Schofields, Trevor Atkins said it was an exciting day for the Diocese as we welcomed Bishop Long.
‘I actually had the pleasure of knowing Bishop Long many years ago when he was the Parish Priest of Our Lady of the Rosary, Kellyville and I know what he offered to the Parish of Kellyville and I know what he will bring to our Diocese,’ Trevor said. ‘I know we at St Joseph’s look forward to growing together with the Bishop leading the way for us.’

Yesterday, Year 3 showcased their learning in RE from this term. They did so in the form of a beautiful liturgy. It was a wonderful event that was very well attended. Students had clearly learnt deeply about the beatitudes and mercy and clearly articulated this through word, song and action. Well done Year 3!

At the National Championships in Canberra last week, Keanu shattered his previous personal best in the 11 years boys multiclass Shot Put event by setting a NEW RECORD claiming a silver medal! 🥈 This record breaking throw was over 1 metre further than his previous record set at the State carnival back in October which was an extraordinary achievement at the highest level! Because of your generosity, we now have 3 full hampers packed with essentials for families in need this Christmas. Yesterday, 15 students from STA joined other school students from Springwood and surrounds at the Manners Park Christmas Tree Decorating event. It was a joyous occasion and their coloured baubles looked amazing hanging on the tree. Well done to all the students in attendance.

Our assembly today began with a beautiful liturgy for Mission Month led by Year 3 and 4 reminding us how we can all be missionaries of hope. We also had students inform us about the upcoming Mission Markets, our Vinnies Christmas Appeal and Year 5 shared with us their recent trip to Ignite Food Store and their Canberra excursion. Overall an exciting Assembly. We also congratulate our Effort in Learning recipients for this fortnight.
